Website Design Process - (1) Website Needs
We are often asked about the website design process by people who would like a website but don't know what to expect. We try to be as clear about this as possible (without treating people like idiots), but if you wish to ask anything that is not covered here please get in touch and we'll do our best to answer your query.
The website design process can be divided into 8 main areas:
- Website needs
- Website preparation »
- Unique website design »
- HTML »
- Search engine optimisation »
- Website hosting »
- Website maintenance »
- Website benefits »
Free instant online website design quote
First of all we can provide you with a free, no obligation to purchase website design quote, and you can get it instantly online. Please understand this is a rough estimate as every website is different. Once we get a better idea of your specific requirements we will agree a definite price with you before we start work on your website pages.
Whatever the exact cost of the website you will find our prices are competitive.
Website needs
If you are happy with your website quote and would like us to proceed with the website design process we must establish your needs, that is determine why you want a website and what you want it to achieve for you. This is to make sure you end up with a website you want, and not something you don't.
We will ask you to send us some information about your website requirements, and would greatly appreciate it if you could complete our website needs document. You can omit this process if you wish but we strongly recommend you complete it as far as you can – it's quite straightforward. We are not trying to get you to do some of the work for us, it's simply so you can tell us the achievements you want to make with your website, and helps us to fulfil them more accurately.
If you have any opinions about how you want your website to look now is the time to tell us, be as specific as you like, it will help us create the website you really want. We welcome your ideas, but if you want to leave it all up to us, that's fine too.
So what do you want your website to do? Websites can have all sorts of different purposes. Here are just a few examples to give you some inspiration:
- Establish a web presence
- Generate business leads
- Provide education
- Give details of special promotions
- Advertise job vacancies
- Generate requests for information
- Provide information
- Encourage potential customers to contact you
- Provide entertainment
- Sell online
You may want a few simple web pages to allow customers to get hold of information about your organisation, or something more sophisticated. You may want to start with a website site to promote your business and think about an online shop further down the line.
The best way to get ideas about what you would like to include on your website is to have a browse around the web and see what other people have done. By this we do not mean to 'copy', but it will help you get some inspiration.
Whatever your present requirements, the website will be designed in such a way that new sections can be added easily. If you choose to expand the website in the future it will not need a complete rebuild!
Website proposal and deposit
As soon as we have the information we need from you we will provide you with a proposal of what will be on your website and how it will take shape, as well as a final price for the work. Once we have your agreement, we will be able to give you a date when work on your website will begin and an estimated completion date, which will normally be between 2 - 6 weeks from the start date.
It is very important that we are clear about what you expect from your website, and that you are clear about how we are going to achieve this before we start work! Careful planning is the key at this stage to ensuring everyone has the same expectations.
We will require a deposit of 50% of the projected cost of the finished website by the start date, and the remainder will need to be paid on completion before the website is officially launched.
