Uploading

When your website has had its final touches and is ready for its grand unveiling to the world, it needs to be transferred to a web server. A hosting provider (which will usually be a web hosting company) will provide you with space on their web servers in which to place your website files, and from there your website will literally be 'served' to the world.

We will arrange hosting with a professional 3rd party hosting provider. An annual fee will be charged for this service, and will be around £50 per annum (but may be more or less depending on your requirements). Once the hosting server is set up we will transfer your website files to it.

Our website hosting provider of choice is Fasthosts; the UK's Number 1 web host. We favour them because they provide plenty of web space, mailboxes and other functionality we might need (such as the option to use server side languages), and all for a very competitive price.

If you already have a hosting provider in place we will arrange to have your website files transferred to their server at no extra charge.

Final checks are made to make sure everything is working correctly.

Emails

Your hosting service will also provide you with proper POP email accounts you can use for your business, such as enquiries@mycompany.com and john@mycompany.com. POP (Post Office Protocol) means you will be able to send and receive email using your email client, such as Outlook Express in addition to web mail (where you check it with your browser, such as Internet Explorer).

We will make sure you have the documentation you need to access your emails.

Website statistics

Now your website is live you will probably want to know how many visitors you are getting, where they are coming from and what pages they are looking at. Of particular interest will be which search engines are sending traffic your way.

Your web host will provide statistical data about your site visitors, but many people do not have the time or inclination to pore over such facts and figures.

There is another highly popular, free web tracker service called StatCounter, which we strongly recommend (we even use it ourselves on this website) as it provides detailed statistics and is easy to manage.

To use StatCounter, a small piece of invisible code is placed on your website which will monitor your site visitors, and you can have reports emailed to you on a regular basis. You do not have to have the Statcounter visible on your website in order for it to work.

We will install the code for StatCounter on each of your web pages at your request (for no extra charge).
